North Shore Environmental Construction, Inc. (NSEC) specializes in mercury cleanup at wastewater plants and successfully completes another large decontamination at a WWTP in Wisconsin. Trickling filter rock was being removed from a trickling filter system when mercury balls were discovered at the bottom of the tank. The project was stopped when the mercury was discovered. NSEC was contacted to cleanup the mercury and decontaminate the trickling filter rock and tanks. The mercury contaminated rock media from the tank was removed and decontaminated by using a proprietary chemical process developed by NSEC. The toxic mercury was transported and disposed of properly. Additional non-hazardous waste was disposed at other designated facilities. The project started on January 30, 2013 and was completed on May 17, 2013. NSEC has developed a proprietary chemical decontamination process for mercury contaminated rock media, gravel and concrete structures.
