Emergency Response

Location: Columbus, WI

Project Summary:

North Shore Environmental Construction provided emergency response services for a large chemical fire at a chemical manufacturing facility in Columbus, WI. Approximately 60 regulatory agencies from surrounding counties including EPA Region V and WDNR were involved. The fire was the result of an electrical failure. The site activities included emergency containments constructed around the facilities, site stabilization (neutralizing acids), removal of thousands of gallons of contaminated water for off-site disposal, removal of burned structures and removal of contaminated soils for off-site disposal. NSEC assisted with the coordination of cleanup activities with the property owner, insurance companies, adjacent property owners and regulatory agencies. This fire will go down in history as one of Wisconsin’s worst chemical fires.
